Brief Job Overview
The London Borough of Lewisham is seeking an experienced Community Occupational Therapist to join the Paediatric OT team. This role focuses on supporting physically disabled children and young people, including those with multiple and complex needs, learning disabilities, or mental health difficulties.
You will provide a specialist community-based OT service, working closely with children, families, carers, and partner agencies to promote independence, safety, and wellbeing within the home environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of disabled children and young people living in the borough or under its responsibility.
- Carry out comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments within home settings.
- Provide recommendations for equipment and home adaptations to support independence and safety.
- Offer specialist advice and support to families, carers, and other professionals.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to coordinate effective support plans.
- Monitor and report on Occupational Therapy standards of professional practice within the service.
- Ensure practice aligns with the RCOT (COT) Professional Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
About You
You will be a skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist with experience working with children and young people with complex needs. You will be confident working autonomously in the community while maintaining strong professional partnerships.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- HCPC registration (essential).
- Experience working with disabled children and young people.
- Knowledge of equipment provision and home adaptations.
- Experience working with complex physical, learning disability, or mental health needs in paediatric populations.
- Strong communication and partnership working skills.
- Understanding of professional standards and ethical practice in Occupational Therapy.
