Locum Lead Child Protection Practitioner – Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT)
Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Child Protection Practitioner to join the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) on a locum basis. This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week on an initial 6-month contract.
This senior practitioner role is ideal for an experienced safeguarding professional with substantial child protection expertise and management experience. You will provide leadership, professional guidance and oversight within a busy, fast-paced multi-agency environment, ensuring that children at risk receive timely, high-quality safeguarding interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional leadership and safeguarding expertise within the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team.
- Support the effective management of complex child protection cases and safeguarding interventions.
- Offer guidance, oversight and decision-making support to Social Workers and partner agencies.
- Promote high standards of safeguarding practice and ensure compliance with statutory legislation and guidance.
- Contribute to strategy discussions, complex case meetings and multi-agency planning.
- Support managers with quality assurance, risk management and service improvement activities.
- Develop effective working relationships with children, families and partner agencies to improve outcomes.
- Ensure accurate recording, robust decision-making and timely progression of safeguarding plans.
About You
You will be an experienced Child Protection professional with a strong background in safeguarding leadership. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate excellent decision-making skills and be confident providing support, challenge and professional guidance to colleagues across Children’s Services.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
- Substantial experience working within statutory Child Protection Services.
- Previous management or leadership experience within Child Protection teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-paced, demanding safeguarding environment.
- Excellent knowledge of children’s safeguarding legislation, policy and statutory guidance.
- Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
- Ability to provide professional oversight, support and challenge across complex safeguarding cases.

- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Contract: Initial 6-month assignment
- Working Pattern: Full-time (condensed hours are not available)
- Hybrid Working: Office-based at least 3 days per week, with increased office attendance expected during duty days.
