Specialist Occupational Therapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with NELFT, working within the Community Recovery – Rough Sleepers Service in Redbridge. This role provides specialist Occupational Therapy support to individuals experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, or housing instability.

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of individuals with severe and enduring mental illness, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-focused approach. You will assess functional ability, occupational performance, cognition, sensory needs, and environmental barriers, helping individuals to improve independence, wellbeing, recovery, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments with individuals experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, or housing instability.
  • Assess occupational performance, functional ability, activities of daily living (ADLs), and executive functioning.
  • Assess sensory needs, cognition, and environmental barriers affecting occupational participation.
  • Identify the impact of mental illness, trauma, substance misuse, emotional health, physical health, and social exclusion on occupational performance.
  • Develop person-centred Occupational Therapy intervention plans focused on recovery, independence, wellbeing, and community integration.
  • Deliver trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-focused Occupational Therapy interventions.
  • Manage an allocated caseload of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals and wider professionals to support engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Use Occupational Therapy assessment and clinical reasoning skills to identify barriers to meaningful activity and participation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with professional and service requirements.

About You

You will be a registered Occupational Therapist with experience managing a caseload of patients with severe and enduring mental illness. Experience working with individuals experiencing rough sleeping or homelessness is essential for this specialist service.

You will have a strong understanding of recovery-focused Occupational Therapy and be confident delivering trauma-informed and strengths-based interventions. Experience using RiO is essential.

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience holding and managing a clinical caseload.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing severe and enduring mental illness.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing rough sleeping, homelessness, or housing instability.
  • Strong Occupational Therapy assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Experience assessing occupational performance, ADLs, executive functioning, cognition, sensory needs, and environmental barriers.
  • Understanding of the impact of mental illness, trauma, substance misuse, and social exclusion on occupational participation.
  • Ability to deliver trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-focused interventions.
  • RiO knowledge is essential.
  • Strong communication, engagement, and multidisciplinary working skills.
