Social Worker – Children’s Services
Location: Bromley Council
Contract Type: Locum / Temporary
Duration: 3 months
Salary: £negotiable
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
Bromley Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Social Worker to join our Children’s Services team on a 3-month interim contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an ambitious, forward-thinking local authority that places children and families at the centre of everything it does.
As a Social Worker, you will work with children, young people, and their families to ensure safety, promote wellbeing, and achieve positive long-term outcomes. You will undertake assessments, develop care plans, and deliver interventions that are strengths-based, family-focused, and designed to empower families to make and sustain positive change.
Main Responsibilities
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families in line with statutory guidance and local procedures.
- Develop, implement, and review Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Plans, ensuring interventions are timely and proportionate.
- Work directly with children and families to identify risks, strengths, and support needs, promoting positive family relationships and stability.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for case conferences, reviews, and court proceedings as required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure coordinated, effective responses that safeguard and support children.
- Ensure that the child’s voice and lived experience are central to all assessments and decisions.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records in accordance with statutory and local authority requirements.
- Participate in reflective supervision and contribute to ongoing service improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).
- Registration: Registered with Social Work England.
- Proven post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, including safeguarding, assessment, and care planning.
- Comprehensive understanding of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice standards.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to manage a complex and varied caseload while maintaining a child-centred focus.
- Commitment to relationship-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-focused social work practice.
Why Join?
Bromley Council is committed to creating a supportive, reflective, and professionally rewarding environment for its social workers. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team that values innovation, professional development, and high-quality practice. The council’s relationship-based approach enables social workers to build meaningful connections with children and families while achieving real, lasting change.
This 3-month opportunity provides a chance to bring your skills, knowledge, and experience to a well-established local authority and contribute to improving the lives of children and young people across Bromley.
Interested? Apply today to join Bromley Council’s Children’s Services as a Social Worker and help make a lasting difference for children, families, and communities.
