Occupational Therapist – Adult Social Care (5 Roles)

Brief Job Overview

Location: Gloucestershire County Council – Shire Hall

Area: Gloucestershire Social Services

Salary: £27.75 per hour

Job Type: Locum

Contract Length: 6 months

Vacancies: 5 Occupational Therapists

Tripod Partners are recruiting for five enthusiastic and self-motivated Occupational Therapists to join Gloucestershire County Council’s Adult Social Care team. These locum opportunities are ideal for Occupational Therapists who are passionate about promoting independence, supporting wellbeing and helping adults remain safely in their own homes.

Working autonomously, you will undertake Occupational Therapy assessments in people’s homes, focusing on what matters most to each individual. You will identify occupational performance difficulties affecting daily living and work with people to prevent, reduce or delay the impact of disability and long-term health conditions.

You will collaborate with the wider social care team to inform care needs assessments and work in partnership with individuals, voluntary organisations and community services to achieve positive outcomes. This is an office-based role with countywide travel across Gloucestershire, so a clear and valid driving licence is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out Occupational Therapy assessments within people’s own homes, focusing on their individual needs, priorities and desired outcomes.
  • Identify occupational performance issues that affect independence and participation in everyday activities.
  • Work autonomously within Adult Social Care to assess functional needs and identify appropriate interventions.
  • Support adults to prevent, reduce or delay the impact of disability and long-term health conditions.
  • Promote independence, safety and wellbeing within the home environment.
  • Work with the wider social care team to inform care needs assessments and support appropriate care planning.
  • Collaborate with individuals, voluntary organisations and community services to identify suitable support and practical solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of environmental adaptations to help address barriers to daily living and independence.
  • Maintain appropriate assessment records and documentation in line with professional and service requirements.
  • Travel across Gloucestershire to undertake community assessments as required.

About You

We are looking for motivated Occupational Therapists who are confident working independently within a community-based Adult Social Care service. You will have experience assessing people in their own homes and be able to identify practical, person-centred solutions that support independence and wellbeing.

You will take a person-centred approach, focusing on what matters to each individual while working collaboratively with social care colleagues and community partners. Knowledge or experience of environmental adaptations is also important for this role.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT), as specified for the role.
  • At least 18 months’ experience working as a registered Occupational Therapist, or equivalent competency demonstrated through prior experience.
  • Experience working within a community setting.
  • Experience assessing and supporting people within their own homes.
  • Specialist training or equivalent competency in environmental adaptations, or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously and undertake functional assessments.
  • Strong communication and partnership-working skills.
  • Commitment to person-centred practice and promoting independence and wellbeing.
  • A clear and valid driving licence is essential due to countywide travel across Gloucestershire.
