Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist seeking your next locum opportunity in adult social care? A Surrey social services team is looking for a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to support adults in maintaining their independence, safety and wellbeing within their homes and communities.

This ongoing locum role offers a varied caseload of approximately 20–30 cases, involving occupational therapy assessments, moving and handling reviews, equipment provision, Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and Technology Enabled Care (TEC) solutions.

You will use a strengths-based, person-centred approach to assess individual needs, identify appropriate interventions and help adults access the services and support they require. You will also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective outcomes and promote independent living.

The successful candidate must be willing to travel across Surrey and attend the office two days per week. Previous local authority experience would be advantageous, as would familiarity with the LAS system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of approximately 20–30 adults requiring occupational therapy assessment and intervention.

  • Undertake proportionate, strengths-based assessments to identify functional needs, risks and barriers to independence.

  • Complete moving and handling assessments and reviews, promoting safe care arrangements for service users and carers.

  • Assess equipment requirements and prescribe and order appropriate small items of equipment.

  • Undertake equipment assessments and Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments, providing recommendations to meet individual needs.

  • Assess for and arrange Technology Enabled Care (TEC) solutions to promote safety, independence and wellbeing.

  • Identify appropriate services and support options, helping adults maximise their independence and achieve meaningful outcomes.

  • Contribute to duty cover within the C2C service, responding to referrals and supporting the wider team’s workload.

  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive case records in accordance with professional standards and local authority procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with data protection requirements and maintain confidentiality when handling service user information.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, service users, families, carers and other professionals to coordinate appropriate interventions.

  • Organise and prioritise competing demands while maintaining a responsive and effective service.

  • Travel across Surrey to undertake assessments and attend the office two days per week.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in adult social care and the ability to manage a varied caseload with confidence and autonomy.

You will have practical experience in occupational therapy assessments, moving and handling, equipment provision and DFG assessments. Your approach will be person-centred and strengths-based, focusing on what matters to each individual while balancing independence, safety and risk management.

You will also demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and maintain high standards of case recording. A flexible approach to community-based work and a willingness to travel throughout Surrey are essential.

Requirements

  • A recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Experience working within adult social care.

  • Proven skills in occupational therapy assessments and interventions.

  • Experience undertaking moving and handling assessments and reviews.

  • Knowledge of equipment assessment, prescription and provision.

  • Experience undertaking Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and making appropriate recommendations.

  • Understanding of Technology Enabled Care (TEC) and its role in supporting independent living.

  • Ability to manage a caseload and undertake proportionate, strengths-based assessments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and accurate case-recording abilities.

  • Understanding of data protection requirements and professional standards.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to duty cover.
