Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to adults within community-based social care? The London Borough of Barnet is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join its Long-Term Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy Team in Colindale.
This rewarding locum opportunity involves supporting adults aged 18 and over who have long-term disabilities, health conditions, frailty or age-related needs that affect their ability to manage everyday activities and maintain their independence at home and within the community.
You will undertake strengths-based, person-centred assessments and deliver practical, outcome-focused interventions to promote independence, improve safety and wellbeing, and help individuals remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
Key Responsibilities
-
Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to identify functional difficulties, risks and barriers to independence for adults with eligible social care needs.
-
Assess daily living activities, mobility, transfers and personal care requirements, developing appropriate interventions to support independence.

Provide advice, information and self-management strategies to individuals, families and carers.

Recommend and arrange suitable equipment, including simple, complex and custom-made solutions, to meet assessed needs.
-
Assess for minor and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)-funded works where appropriate.
-
Complete manual handling assessments and provide guidance to informal carers and care providers.
-
Undertake moving and handling assessments for adults with complex physical needs, ensuring safe and appropriate care arrangements.
-
Participate in a designated duty day once per week, triaging incoming referrals and responding to service requirements.
-
Work collaboratively with health professionals, housing providers, care agencies and voluntary sector organisations to coordinate effective support.
-
Apply a strengths-based, person-centred and outcome-focused approach to help individuals achieve goals that are meaningful to them.
-
Work within the Care Act 2014, relevant legislation, professional standards and local authority policies to ensure assessments and interventions are appropriate, proportionate and lawful.
-
Identify opportunities to reduce risks, maximise independence and delay or prevent the need for ongoing care and support services.
About You
You will be a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist with the skills and experience to assess complex functional needs and deliver effective interventions within adult social care. You will be confident working with adults with a range of physical disabilities, long-term health conditions, frailty and age-related difficulties.
You will bring a practical, solution-focused approach to occupational therapy, balancing individual choice and independence with appropriate risk management. Strong communication and collaborative working skills will be essential when engaging with service users, families, carers and multidisciplinary professionals.
