Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for your next locum opportunity within the NHS? London North West University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the team at Northwick Park Hospital, working on stroke wards.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with relevant stroke rehabilitation experience to support patients following a stroke, helping them regain functional abilities, maximise independence and work towards a safe and effective discharge from hospital.

The successful candidate will contribute to patient-centred rehabilitation, completing occupational therapy assessments and delivering appropriate interventions to address the impact of stroke on daily living activities.

An immediate start is required, with the opportunity to join an established NHS service on an ongoing locum basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake occupational therapy assessments for patients admitted to stroke wards, identifying functional difficulties and rehabilitation needs.

  • Assess patients’ ability to complete activities of daily living, including personal care, dressing, washing and other essential tasks.

  • Develop and deliver individualised rehabilitation programmes to promote recovery, independence and participation in everyday activities.

  • Evaluate patients’ physical, cognitive and functional abilities following stroke to inform appropriate occupational therapy interventions.

  • Recommend suitable equipment, adaptations and strategies to support safe and independent functioning.

  • Contribute to discharge planning, working towards safe and timely transitions from hospital to the community or other appropriate care settings.

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including medical staff, nursing teams, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and carers, providing advice and guidance on rehabilitation and ongoing support needs.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure interventions are delivered in accordance with professional standards and NHS policies.

About You

You will be a motivated and patient-focused Occupational Therapist with the clinical skills and confidence to work within an acute stroke service. You will understand the challenges patients may experience following a stroke and be committed to supporting their recovery, functional independence and quality of life.

As a Band 6 practitioner, you will be able to manage your clinical responsibilities effectively, apply sound clinical reasoning and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You will also demonstrate excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering safe, effective and evidence-based occupational therapy.
