Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join the London Pledge Team. This is a full-time, 36-hour per week position offered on an initial 6-month contract, supporting children and young people to achieve positive, long-term outcomes through effective care planning and permanency arrangements.
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of up to 17 children, including approximately 3–4 cases within care proceedings. You will work closely with children, families, carers and partner agencies to ensure children receive high-quality, child-centred support while progressing plans for permanence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of children and young people in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Undertake direct work with children to understand and promote their wishes and feelings.
- Complete comprehensive care planning, permanency planning and life story work.
- Prepare high-quality court statements, reports and assessments to support care proceedings.
- Attend court hearings and represent the local authority where required.
- Undertake parenting assessments, including Together and Apart assessments.
- Work collaboratively with families, carers, legal representatives and partner agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for children.
- Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality case recordings in line with statutory guidance and organisational standards.
About You
You will be an experienced Children’s Social Worker with a strong background in court work and children in care. You will be confident managing complex cases, producing high-quality assessments and reports, and building positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
- Proven experience of court work and sound knowledge of relevant children’s legislation.
- Experience working with Children in Care, including direct work, life story work, care planning and permanency planning.
- Experience completing Parenting Assessments, including Together and Apart assessments.
- Excellent written, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities within a busy statutory children’s service.
Contract & Salary
- Job Title: Locum Social Worker – London Pledge Team
- Hours: 36 hours per week (Full Time)
- Contract: 6 Months
- Caseload: Up to 17 children, including approximately 3–4 care proceedings cases.
- Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office.
- Office Base: Romford Town Hall.
- Equipment: Laptop and mobile phone provided.
- Salary: Negotiable.
