Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting a Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum role within West Midlands Social Care. This position focuses on supporting children and young people with complex needs by providing occupational therapy assessments, advice, and equipment recommendations that promote independence, safety, and participation in daily life.
Working within children’s social care services, the Occupational Therapist will complete assessments within the home environment, recommending equipment and adaptations that support children and their families. The role also involves collaborating with partner organisations such as the NHS, local authorities, schools, and Child Development Centres (CDC) to ensure coordinated and effective support for children with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out occupational therapy assessments for children and young people within home and community settings.
- Recommend and provide standard and bespoke specialist equipment to support independence and daily activities.
- Assess and recommend minor and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) where appropriate.
- Complete manual handling and risk assessments for children and their carers.
- Provide advice, guidance, and signposting to families and carers regarding available support services.
- Work collaboratively with partner organisations including NHS services, local authorities, schools, and Child Development Centres.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to ongoing care planning and reviews.
About You
You will be a qualified Paediatric Occupational Therapist with experience supporting children with additional needs within social care or community services. You will demonstrate strong clinical reasoning skills and confidence assessing complex equipment needs and home adaptations.
You will be comfortable carrying out assessments in home environments and working collaboratively with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to identify practical solutions that support children’s independence and wellbeing.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience working as a children’s Occupational Therapist.
- Strong understanding of complex equipment provision and minor and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG).
- Experience completing manual handling and risk assessments.
- Ability to carry out home assessments and recommend equipment or adaptations.
- Full driving licence required due to community-based work.
