About the Role

Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for 2 Community Occupational Therapists to join the adult social care service at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. These are six-month locum opportunities for Occupational Therapists with experience working with adults in community settings.

The successful Occupational Therapists will complete Occupational Therapy assessments primarily in people’s own homes, supporting individuals to maximise their independence, safety and ability to manage everyday activities.

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining community visits with office-based work where required. The team’s usual office day is Tuesday, although attendance on this day is not essential. The Bluebell Office also provides hot-desking facilities for Occupational Therapists between visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Occupational Therapy assessments with adults in community settings, primarily within their own homes.
  • Carry out comprehensive functional assessments to identify individuals’ abilities, needs and risks.
  • Complete moving and handling assessments and develop appropriate moving and handling plans.
  • Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments where required.
  • Assess for and make recommendations regarding appropriate seating and equipment provision.
  • Assess and recommend moving and handling equipment to support safe transfers and daily activities.
  • Assess for adaptations under the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process.
  • Use professional clinical reasoning to make appropriate, proportionate recommendations based on individual circumstances.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers and other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate case records and documentation in accordance with professional and service requirements.
  • Manage and prioritise a community caseload effectively.

About You

We are looking for experienced Community Occupational Therapists who are confident carrying out assessments with adults in their own homes and providing practical, person-centred recommendations.

You will have experience in functional assessment, moving and handling, equipment provision and adaptations. You should also be confident completing Mental Capacity Assessments and working autonomously within a community-based adult social care service.

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working as an Occupational Therapist within adult social care or a community setting.
  • Experience completing functional assessments.
  • Experience completing moving and handling assessments and developing appropriate plans.
  • Experience assessing for equipment and seating.
  • Knowledge and experience of moving and handling equipment.
  • Experience assessing for or making recommendations regarding adaptations under the DFG process.
  • Experience completing Mental Capacity Assessments.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a community caseload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time role offering 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The position operates on a hybrid basis, with Occupational Therapists working in the community and attending the Bluebell Office when required. The team’s usual office day is Tuesday, although attendance on this day is not essential. Hot-desking facilities are available for staff between community visits.
