Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity in Wolverhampton, working within West Midlands Social Services.

 

 

The successful candidate will need to be a senior practitioner with at least 2 years’ senior Occupational Therapy experience, particularly in assessment, advice, and intervention relating to moving and handling needs for adults with physical disabilities and long-term health conditions.

 

 

This role focuses on complex moving and handling assessments, specialist equipment, manual handling plans, and supporting carers to identify safe and appropriate care solutions while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and positive risk-taking.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments focusing on functional ability, mobility, transfers, positioning, and moving and handling needs.
  • Assess risks associated with manual handling activities and develop person-centred risk management plans.
  • Recommend, prescribe, and review appropriate equipment and assistive technology.
  • Assess and advise on the use of hoists, slings, profiling beds, standing aids, transfer aids, specialist seating, and pressure care equipment.
  • Work with other professionals when assessing and providing pressure care equipment.
  • Develop safe systems of work that balance risk management with individual choice, dignity, and independence.
  • Provide specialist advice regarding single-handed care, least restrictive practice, and positive risk-taking.
  • Work with carers to develop therapy plans that support individuals to increase their independence.
  • Make recommendations regarding appropriate care needs based on assessed functional ability and risk.
  • Use the Care Act to underpin assessment and professional practice.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records.
  • Work collaboratively with adults, carers, colleagues, and other professionals to achieve safe and person-centred outcomes.

 

 

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with at least 2 years’ senior experience and a strong background in moving and handling assessments. You will be confident supporting adults with physical disabilities and long-term health conditions.

 

 

You will have strong knowledge of specialist equipment, including seating, hoisting, and transfer equipment, and be able to provide clear manual handling plans and recommendations to carers.

 

 

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • At least 2 years’ senior Occupational Therapy experience.
  • Strong experience in Occupational Therapy assessment, advice, and intervention.
  • Experience working with adults with physical disabilities and long-term health conditions.
  • Strong moving and handling assessment and risk management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of seating, hoisting, and transfer equipment.
  • Experience with specialist equipment including hoists, slings, profiling beds, standing aids, transfer aids, and specialist seating.
  • Knowledge of pressure care equipment and ability to work with other professionals where required.
  • Understanding of single-handed care, least restrictive practice, and positive risk-taking.
  • Knowledge of the Care Act and its application to practice.
  • Ability to develop effective manual handling and therapy plans for carers.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance.
  • Ability to travel frequently across community settings.

  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: £31.97 per hour
  • Working Days: Monday to Friday
  • Office Attendance: 1–2 days per week, with Wednesday being the key day
  • Community Work: Frequent travel across community settings
