Job Details
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its Adult Social Care service on an ongoing locum basis.
The successful candidate will have experience working within reablement and supporting individuals to maximise their independence. A key focus of the role will be reviewing care packages and identifying opportunities to safely reduce the need for moving and handling support, including implementing single-handed care practices where appropriate.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with strong community and social care experience who is confident assessing functional needs and identifying practical solutions to promote independence.
Key Responsibilities

Complete Occupational Therapy assessments and reviews to identify individuals’ functional needs and support requirements.

Work within a reablement-focused approach, promoting independence and enabling individuals to achieve their maximum potential.

Review existing care packages and identify opportunities to safely reduce levels of support.

Assess moving and handling requirements and implement appropriate strategies to reduce unnecessary care provision.

Apply single-handed care practices where clinically appropriate and safe to do so.

Work collaboratively with individuals, carers, care providers and wider multidisciplinary teams.

Provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice regarding equipment, techniques and care provision.

Ensure interventions are person-centred, proportionate and focused on achieving positive outcomes.

Maintain accurate and professional records in accordance with relevant legislation and HCPC standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
-
Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.

Current HCPC registration.

Experience working within a reablement service.

Strong experience assessing moving and handling needs.

Experience of reducing moving and handling requirements within care packages.

Knowledge and practical experience of single-handed care practices.

Ability to identify opportunities to promote independence and reduce reliance on formal care.

Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and risk-management skills.

Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills.

Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
