Occupational Therapist – Children with Disabilities Team

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a dedicated Children with Disabilities (CWD) Team within North West Social Services. This rewarding locum opportunity focuses on supporting children and young people with complex needs to maximise their independence, safety and participation both at home and within their local communities.

You will deliver high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy assessments and interventions, with a particular focus on functional independence, housing adaptations and environmental accessibility. Working alongside families and a range of partner agencies, you will help improve outcomes for children by ensuring they have safe, accessible living environments that meet their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake specialist occupational therapy assessments for children and young people with disabilities and complex needs.
  • Assess functional ability and identify interventions that promote independence, safety and participation.
  • Carry out specialist housing and environmental assessments to determine the need for minor and major adaptations.
  • Provide professional recommendations to support Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications.
  • Work closely with the Home Improvement Agency (HIA), surveyors and caseworkers to develop appropriate adaptation solutions.
  • Support families throughout the adaptations process, from initial assessment through to completion of works.
  • Collaborate with social workers, education professionals, healthcare colleagues and housing partners to deliver coordinated, holistic care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, reports and recommendations in line with professional and legislative standards.
  • Manage a varied caseload while delivering high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy services.

About You

You will be a compassionate and proactive Occupational Therapist with experience working with children with disabilities. You will have excellent clinical reasoning skills, enjoy collaborative multidisciplinary working, and be confident delivering specialist assessments for complex cases. You will be passionate about improving the lives of children and supporting families through practical, meaningful interventions.

Requirements

  • Professional Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the HCPC.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
  • Experience completing Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and applications.
  • Knowledge of housing adaptations, accessibility and environmental assessments.
  • Experience working with children presenting with complex physical and functional needs.
  • Excellent communication, assessment and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and make sound clinical decisions in complex situations.
  • Experience working collaboratively with health, education, housing and social care professionals.
  • Commitment to delivering person-centred, family-focused occupational therapy services.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist – Children with Disabilities Team
  • Area: North West Social Services
  • Job Type: Locum
  • Contract: Ongoing
  • Salary: £35 per hour
