Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Health Team at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), MoD Aldershot, Hampshire. This locum opportunity will support the delivery of a peripatetic Occupational Therapy service within Occupational Health, working with Service Personnel across a range of diagnoses and complex biopsychosocial factors.
The successful Occupational Therapist will work autonomously and be accountable for their own professional practice, providing specialist functional assessments, workplace advice and Occupational Therapy input to support Occupational Health outcomes and Service Personnel’s ability to return to work.
Key Responsibilities
- Work autonomously, without direct supervision, and remain accountable for professional actions and clinical decisions.
- Support the delivery of a peripatetic Occupational Therapy service within Occupational Health.
- Provide clinical advice and training to multidisciplinary colleagues, external agencies and organisations regarding the clinical value of Occupational Therapy within Occupational Health.
- Assist the Occupational Medicine Consultant in providing timely and appropriate Occupational Health advice to key stakeholders, with reference to relevant Joint Service policies, current Occupational Health guidance and DPHC best practice guidelines.
- Manage a direct clinical caseload and ensure Service Personnel have an accurate plan of care reflecting assessment findings, identified issues and recommendations.
- Assess Service Personnel presenting with a range of diagnoses and interpret complex biopsychosocial factors that may affect their ability to return to work.
- Consider the impact of diagnosis and prognosis on functional capacity and provide appropriate specialist Occupational Therapy recommendations.
- Undertake standardised and non-standardised Occupational Therapy assessments of function and activities, including workplace adaptations, Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) and job demand analysis.
- Make complex clinical decisions and produce specialist reports to support Occupational Health deliverables.
- Assess individuals and identify population trends using a range of appropriate assessment and intervention methods.
About You
We are looking for a confident and autonomous Band 6 Occupational Therapist with experience of assessing complex functional needs and applying Occupational Therapy expertise within an Occupational Health environment. You will need to demonstrate strong clinical reasoning and the ability to interpret the interaction between physical, psychological and social factors affecting functional capacity and work.
You should be comfortable undertaking detailed functional assessments, including workplace adaptations, Functional Capacity Evaluation and job demand analysis, and translating your findings into clear clinical recommendations and specialist reports.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Band 6 level Occupational Therapy experience.
- Ability to work autonomously and take accountability for professional practice.
- Experience undertaking functional assessments and making complex clinical decisions.
- Understanding of biopsychosocial factors and their impact on functional capacity and return to work.
- Experience or knowledge of workplace adaptations, Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) and job demand analysis.
- Strong clinical communication and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary Occupational Health environment.
