Occupational Therapist – 2 Roles

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for 2 experienced Occupational Therapists to join Slough Borough Council within Berkshire Social Services. These ongoing locum opportunities are based within the Long Term Team, with an initial requirement of 12 weeks.

The successful Occupational Therapists will undertake holistic assessments within people’s home environments, identifying the needs of service users and carers and developing person-centred interventions aligned with available resources. You will independently manage a specialist caseload while working closely with health and social care colleagues to support coordinated care, safe discharges and effective transfers of care.

The role combines specialist clinical practice with equipment provision, manual handling, assistive technology, multidisciplinary working and support for Occupational Therapy Assistants. A strengths-based approach will be central to promoting independence and reducing reliance on formal care services.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct holistic Occupational Therapy assessments to identify the needs of service users and carers within their home environments.
• Develop person-centred recommendations and interventions that are appropriate and aligned with available resources.
• Involve carers throughout assessment and intervention, identifying and addressing their needs alongside those of the service user.
• Independently manage a specialist clinical caseload and deliver high-quality assessments and interventions.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date clinical records.
• Set SMART goals to guide therapeutic interventions and support timely progression through the service.
• Ensure clinical activities and interventions are informed by current manual handling legislation, training and best practice.
• Promote Assistive Technology and digital tools such as AskSARA to enhance independence and reduce reliance on formal care services.
• Embed strengths-based approaches throughout assessment, intervention and care planning.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across health and social care, including Local Access Points and Discharge to Assess teams.
• Contribute to effective multidisciplinary team working, including assessment, treatment planning, care pathway management and safe discharge or transfer of care.
• Support the development and delivery of specialist assessment, treatment and intervention programmes within community settings, including in-reach support where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for the safe prescription, provision and monitoring of equipment in accordance with relevant service policies and procedures.
• Provide supervision and guidance to Occupational Therapy Assistants in line with your level of expertise.
• Participate in clinical supervision, appraisals, peer reviews and team-based CPD activities.
• Maintain a comprehensive CPD portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development and accountability.
• Undertake other duties aligned with core Occupational Therapy skills and responsibilities as required by the service.

About You

We are looking for experienced Occupational Therapists who can work confidently and independently within a long-term social care environment. You should have strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills, with the ability to consider the needs of both service users and carers when developing person-centred solutions.

You will need to be confident managing a specialist caseload and working across health and social care pathways. Experience with equipment prescription, manual handling, Assistive Technology and community-based intervention will be particularly relevant to this role.

Requirements

• Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Experience working within a social care, community or comparable Occupational Therapy setting.
• Experience independently managing a clinical caseload.
• Strong holistic assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
• Knowledge of manual handling legislation, training and best practice.
• Experience with equipment prescription, provision and monitoring.
• Understanding of Assistive Technology and strengths-based approaches.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across health and social care services.
• Ability to provide supervision and guidance to Occupational Therapy Assistants where appropriate.
• Commitment to CPD, clinical supervision and maintaining professional standards.
