Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council. Working within North West Social Services, you will join the Adult Social Care Equipment and Adaptations service, supporting adults to remain safe, independent, and well supported within their own homes.

This community-focused role will involve completing specialist Occupational Therapy assessments, arranging appropriate equipment and major adaptations, managing risk, and identifying practical solutions that enable people to achieve their desired outcomes. You will work collaboratively with residents, families, carers, social care colleagues, health professionals, and other partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake high-quality and specialist Occupational Therapy assessments within the community in accordance with the Care Act.
  • Assess adults’ functional needs, risks, and changing circumstances, including those associated with progressive and complex conditions.
  • Assess, prescribe, and arrange appropriate equipment and major adaptations to support independence and safety at home.
  • Identify practical and person-centred solutions that promote recovery, independence, and wellbeing.
  • Support carers by identifying solutions that enable them to continue safely in their caring role.
  • Monitor and review support arrangements in response to changing or developing needs.
  • Undertake effective risk assessments and develop appropriate risk management approaches.
  • Apply specialist manual handling knowledge to support safe and effective interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Care, health colleagues, residents, families, carers, and other professionals to ensure needs are appropriately assessed and managed.
  • Contribute to preventing deterioration and reducing or managing risks through timely Occupational Therapy intervention.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, assessments, recommendations, and reviews.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and undertake continuing professional development relevant to the role.
  • Work flexibly across the Borough and from a range of locations to meet service and business requirements.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a background working with adults in a community or social care setting. You will have strong assessment, problem-solving, risk management, and manual handling skills, together with the ability to work confidently and autonomously.

You will be a collaborative and solutions-focused practitioner who is committed to promoting independence and delivering person-centred outcomes for adults and their carers.

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with adults within a community or Adult Social Care setting.
  • Strong Occupational Therapy assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Experience assessing for and providing equipment and/or major adaptations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and risk management skills.
  • Strong manual handling knowledge and assessment skills.
  • Understanding of the Care Act and statutory Adult Social Care assessment responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Ability to travel across the Borough and work from different locations.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings or weekends where required by service needs.
