Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Walsall Council. Working within West Midlands Social Services, you will join the Optimal Handed Care Project, supporting the delivery of innovative, person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions that maximise independence while promoting safe, efficient, and sustainable care.

This hybrid role offers an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with strong manual handling expertise and experience in Optimal Handed Care. You will work closely with individuals, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals to reduce reliance on care where appropriate, implement strengths-based solutions, and deliver high-quality reablement and equipment services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments to identify individual needs and develop outcome-focused, person-centred intervention plans.
  • Lead assessments as part of the Optimal Handed Care Project, promoting safe, proportionate, and independence-focused care solutions.
  • Carry out manual handling assessments and recommend best practice approaches to support service users and carers.
  • Co-produce care and support plans with individuals, families, and carers where appropriate.
  • Provide professional advice regarding equipment, adaptations, community services, and support options.
  • Deliver and oversee reablement interventions that maximise independence and reduce ongoing care needs.
  • Assess, prescribe, and arrange specialist equipment and home adaptations to support safe daily living.
  • Review and reassess interventions to ensure they remain effective and responsive to changing needs.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, social care colleagues, housing teams, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate electronic case records and utilise IT systems in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Participate in duty responsibilities, service development initiatives, team meetings, and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain professional HCPC registration and practice in line with relevant legislation, policies, and professional standards.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services. You will have specialist knowledge of manual handling and experience applying Optimal Handed Care principles to promote independence and improve outcomes for adults.

You will possess excellent assessment, communication, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to manage your own workload while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of manual handling assessments.
  • Experience delivering or supporting Optimal Handed Care approaches.
  • Experience prescribing equipment and recommending home adaptations.
  • Knowledge of reablement and strengths-based practice.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, report writing, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Ability to manage an autonomous caseload while contributing effectively to service development.

Contract & Salary

  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:45–17:15.
