Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting a Band 7 Occupational Therapist for a locum role within South West Wales NHS. This position is based within an Acute and Accident & Emergency service, supporting early intervention and complex discharge planning for vulnerable patients.
The Occupational Therapist will provide specialist assessment and intervention for frail and elderly patients, as well as individuals with respiratory conditions and stroke-related needs. The role focuses on delivering timely rehabilitation, supporting safe discharge pathways, and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out specialist occupational therapy assessments within acute and A&E settings.
- Deliver interventions for frail, elderly, respiratory, and stroke patients.
- Support early intervention and rapid response pathways.
- Contribute to complex discharge planning and admission avoidance.
- Promote safe and timely discharge from hospital settings.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Support patients to maintain independence and reduce reliance on long-term care packages.
- Provide advice and support to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in line with NHS standards.
About You
You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in
acute hospital services, including frailty, respiratory care, or stroke rehabilitation.
You will demonstrate strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to manage complex cases effectively.
You will be confident working within fast-paced multidisciplinary environments and supporting patients
through rehabilitation and discharge planning pathways.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience within acute hospital or A&E services.
- Experience with frailty, respiratory, or stroke rehabilitation desirable.
- Experience in discharge planning and admission avoidance.
- Ability to manage a specialist caseload independently.
- Strong communication, organisational, and clinical reasoning skills.

- Role: Occupational Therapist – Band 7

- Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
