Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Walsall Council. Working within West Midlands Social Services, you will join the Prevention & Early Intervention Service, supporting adults with physical disabilities to maximise their independence, reduce risk, and remain safely within their own homes.

This hybrid role combines community-based practice with one office day per week, offering the opportunity to manage a varied and rewarding caseload. Using a strengths-based, person-centred approach, you will deliver high-quality Occupational Therapy interventions that prevent hospital admissions, reduce reliance on formal care packages, and promote meaningful participation in everyday life.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments using a person-centred, strengths-based approach.
• Assess adults with physical disabilities and develop interventions that promote independence and wellbeing.
• Manage and prioritise a diverse community caseload independently, with access to professional supervision where required.
• Use specialist clinical knowledge of physical health conditions to inform assessment and intervention planning.
• Assess for and arrange minor equipment, specialist equipment, and major home adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs).
• Complete moving and handling assessments and provide practical advice to service users, carers, and professionals.
• Contribute to rehousing reports and provide signposting to appropriate health, housing, and community services.
• Work collaboratively with service users, carers, Social Workers, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic case records in line with professional standards.
• Apply safeguarding principles and work in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and relevant legislation.
• Support the Prevention & Early Intervention Service in reducing falls, preventing hospital admissions, and avoiding functional decline.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with at least two years’ post-qualification experience and a strong background in Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy. You will have excellent assessment and clinical reasoning skills, together with experience promoting independence through equipment provision, adaptations, and strengths-based practice.

You will be a proactive and collaborative practitioner who is confident working autonomously within the community while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
• Previous community Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy experience is highly desirable.
• Experience undertaking moving and handling assessments.
• Knowledge of specialist equipment, Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), and home adaptations.
• Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014 and Adult Safeguarding.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• An enhanced DBS check may be required.
