Locum Social Worker – Through Care Team (Children in Care & UASC)

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join the Through Care Team. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:45am – 5:00pm), offered on an initial 3-month contract with the potential for extension.

The Through Care Team supports Children in Care and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), with a focus on achieving permanence, promoting stability and preparing young people for adulthood. You will manage a caseload of approximately 15 children, working collaboratively with young people, carers and partner agencies to deliver positive long-term outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

       

  • Manage a caseload of Children in Care and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).
       

  • Develop and progress care plans and pathway plans that promote permanence and positive outcomes.
       

  • Support children and young people through long-term fostering arrangements and transition into adulthood.
       

  • Undertake statutory visits and maintain regular direct work with children and young people.
       

  • Work closely with foster carers, families, education providers, health professionals and partner agencies.
       

  • Prepare high-quality assessments, reports and statutory documentation.
       

  • Attend reviews, planning meetings and court proceedings where required.
       

  • Travel nationally when necessary to visit children and young people placed outside the local area.
       

  • Maintain accurate case records in accordance with statutory guidance and organisational policies.

About You

You will be an experienced Children’s Social Worker with a passion for supporting Children in Care and helping young people achieve successful long-term outcomes. You will have excellent relationship-building skills, a sound understanding of care planning and the flexibility to travel where required.

Requirements

       

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
       

  • Recognised Social Work qualification.
       

  • Experience working with Children in Care (Looked After Children).
       

  • Some experience working with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).
       

  • Ability and willingness to travel across the UK to visit children and young people.
       

  • Strong knowledge of children’s legislation, care planning and permanency planning.
       

  • Excellent communication, assessment and report-writing skills.

Contract & Salary

  • Hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (8:45am – 5:00pm)
       

  • Contract: Minimum 3-month assignment

  • Pay Rate: £37.52 per hour
       

  • Working Pattern: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week in the office, plus one duty week every 5 weeks.
       

  • Office Base: Hounslow House
       

  • Equipment: Council equipment provided and collected from the office.
