Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Walsall Council. Working within West Midlands Social Services, you will deliver a high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy service to adults, children, and carers, supporting individuals to maximise independence, improve wellbeing, and maintain choice through effective assessment, intervention, and support planning.

This hybrid role offers an excellent opportunity to work across a varied community caseload, assessing functional needs, recommending equipment and adaptations, and delivering reablement interventions that prevent, reduce, or delay the need for ongoing care and support. You will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes for service users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments to identify individuals’ strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Assess functional abilities and develop person-centred interventions that maximise independence and wellbeing.
  • Recommend solutions that prevent, reduce, or delay the need for ongoing care and support.
  • Prescribe, order, and coordinate the provision of specialist equipment and assistive technology.
  • Demonstrate the safe and effective use of equipment to service users, carers, and support networks.
  • Assess for and recommend minor and major home adaptations to promote safe, independent living.
  • Design, implement, and review reablement programmes that enable individuals to regain or maintain independence.
  • Carry out moving and handling assessments, complete risk assessments, and develop safe systems of work.
  • Promote and implement single-handed care approaches where appropriate to maximise independence and reduce reliance on care.
  • Work collaboratively with housing teams, health professionals, formal and informal carers, and partner agencies to deliver coordinated, person-centred outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure practice complies with relevant legislation, safeguarding responsibilities, HCPC standards, and local authority policies.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult or Children’s Social Care, community Occupational Therapy, or integrated health and social care services. You will have strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills, together with experience in equipment provision, home adaptations, moving and handling, and reablement.

You will be confident working independently while building effective relationships with service users, carers, housing providers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, strengths-based Occupational Therapy interventions.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Social Care, community Occupational Therapy, or integrated services.
  • Experience undertaking functional assessments and delivering person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions.
  • Knowledge of equipment provision, assistive technology, and home adaptations.
  • Experience carrying out moving and handling assessments and promoting safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge and practical application of single-handed care approaches.
  • Experience delivering or supporting reablement programmes.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding legislation and relevant Occupational Therapy professional standards.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist
  • Sector: West Midlands Social Services
  • Employer: Walsall Council
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: Ongoing
  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid, with the expectation of one office-based day per week (Monday).
  • Location: Walsall
  • Reference Code: U. RQ1754894.016007.BE20670
