Occupational Therapist – Band 5 (Part Time)

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist for a part-time locum opportunity within Bedfordshire NHS. Based with East London NHS Foundation Trust, this role sits within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), supporting working-age adults experiencing severe and enduring mental health conditions.

Working within a well-established multidisciplinary team, you will deliver evidence-based, recovery-focused Occupational Therapy interventions that empower individuals to develop independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in everyday life. This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with community mental health experience who is passionate about promoting recovery, social inclusion, and person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions for working-age adults with complex mental health needs.
  • Deliver recovery-focused, person-centred interventions that promote independence in self-care, productivity, leisure, and daily living.
  • Manage a specialist caseload, contributing to assessment, care planning, care coordination, risk management, and discharge planning.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Team to deliver coordinated, holistic care.
  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice and promote the role of Occupational Therapy within the wider team.
  • Support service users to access community resources, employment, education, and meaningful activities that encourage recovery and social inclusion.
  • Facilitate individual and group-based therapeutic interventions where appropriate.
  • Manage complex clinical situations involving individuals with emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Work alongside the Senior Occupational Therapist to support service development, clinical governance, audit, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.

About You

You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within mental health services and a strong commitment to recovery-focused practice. You will be confident working independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team to support adults with complex mental health needs.

You will possess excellent communication, assessment, and clinical reasoning skills, together with a passion for enabling individuals to achieve meaningful occupational goals and improve their quality of life.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within mental health services, ideally in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Knowledge of recovery-focused and person-centred Occupational Therapy practice.
  • Experience managing caseloads and contributing to care planning and risk management.
  • Ability to facilitate individual and group therapeutic interventions.
  • Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist – Band 5 (Part Time)
  • Sector: Bedfordshire NHS
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: 3 months
  • Salary: Negotiable
  • Working Pattern: Part-time (0.8 WTE)
  • Location: East London NHS Foundation Trust – Bedford
