Occupational Therapist – Prevention & Early Intervention Service

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within West Midlands Social Care. Based with Walsall Council, this role sits within the Prevention & Early Intervention Service, supporting adults with physical disabilities to maintain independence, reduce risk, and remain safely within their communities.

Working within a community-based service, the successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload of adults aged 18+ using a person-centred, strengths-based approach. The focus of the role is on early intervention, preventing functional decline, reducing falls risks, avoiding hospital admissions, and minimising reliance on formal care services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments using a person-centred and strengths-based approach.
  • Support adults with physical disabilities to maximise independence and participation in daily activities.
  • Manage and prioritise a varied and complex community caseload autonomously.
  • Assess for and arrange minor equipment, specialist equipment, and major adaptations.
  • Complete Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments and recommendations where required.
  • Undertake manual handling assessments and provide appropriate advice and interventions.
  • Contribute to rehousing assessments and reports.
  • Provide information, advice, and signposting to relevant support services.
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, multidisciplinary professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely case records and documentation.
  • Apply safeguarding principles and relevant legislation, including the Care Act, within all areas of practice.
  • Contribute positively to team development and service improvement initiatives.

About You

You will be a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in
community-based adult social care. You will have excellent clinical reasoning skills and experience supporting adults with physical disabilities through preventative and enabling interventions.

You will be confident working independently while also contributing effectively to a supportive multidisciplinary team. A commitment to person-centred practice, prevention, and achieving positive outcomes is essential.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Previous community social care Occupational Therapy experience highly desirable.
  • Experience assessing for equipment, adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grants.
  • Knowledge of manual handling assessments and risk management.
  • Strong understanding of the Care Act and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Enhanced DBS (Adults & Children).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and case management skills.

Contract & Salary

  • Role: Occupational Therapist – Prevention & Early Intervention Service
