Occupational Therapist – Integrated Neighbourhood Teams

Brief Job Overview

Location: Manchester City Council – South and Central Manchester

Area: North West Social Services

Salary: £35 per hour

Job Type: Locum

Contract Length: Ongoing

Tripod Partners are recruiting for an experienced and passionate Occupational Therapist to join Manchester City Council’s new Integrated Neighbourhood Teams. This is an excellent opportunity to use your occupational therapy expertise to help residents live healthier, safer and more independent lives within their own communities.

Working alongside Social Workers and Social Care Assessors, you will take a strengths-based approach to identifying individual abilities, reducing barriers and achieving positive outcomes. You will undertake community-based functional and moving and handling assessments, recommend appropriate equipment and adaptations, and support prevention, reablement and rehabilitation initiatives.

The role focuses on helping residents remain in their own homes for longer, reducing reliance on formal care and preventing avoidable hospital admissions or residential placements. This is a hybrid position, with office attendance required on certain days. A full driving capability is essential due to the community-based nature of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake community-based Occupational Therapy assessments to identify residents’ functional abilities, needs and support requirements.
  • Complete moving and handling assessments and recommend appropriate interventions to promote safety and independence.
  • Assess the need for suitable equipment and adaptations to support daily living and accessibility.
  • Provide professional Occupational Therapy advice and guidance to residents, families, carers and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers and Social Care Assessors within the Integrated Neighbourhood Teams.
  • Use a strengths-based approach to identify individual capabilities, reduce barriers and support positive outcomes.
  • Champion prevention, reablement and rehabilitation to maximise independence and reduce the need for ongoing formal care.
  • Support safeguarding processes where required to help protect residents and promote their wellbeing.
  • Help residents remain safely in their own homes for longer and reduce avoidable hospital admissions or residential care placements.
  • Contribute to coordinated, person-centred support within the local community.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about promoting independence and improving outcomes for adults within the community. You will have practical experience undertaking functional assessments, moving and handling assessments, and recommending appropriate equipment and adaptations.

You will be confident working autonomously in community settings while collaborating effectively with Social Workers, Social Care Assessors and other professionals. A proactive approach to prevention, reablement and rehabilitation is essential, alongside the ability to provide clear advice and guidance to residents and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working within community-based Occupational Therapy services.
  • Experience undertaking functional assessments and moving and handling assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience of recommending appropriate equipment and adaptations.
  • Ability to provide professional advice and guidance to residents, carers and colleagues.
  • Understanding of prevention, reablement and rehabilitation approaches.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an integrated health and social care environment.
  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities within Adult Social Care.
  • Strong communication, assessment and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Full driving capability is essential for the community-based role.
  • Willingness to work flexibly across South and Central Manchester and attend office locations on designated days.
