Brief Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Physiotherapist to join the University Hospitals North Midlands NHS Trust. This exciting locum opportunity is ideal for a dynamic clinician with advanced expertise in acute and chronic respiratory care, neurological rehabilitation, and complex multi-pathology case management.

As a senior practitioner, you will lead a specialist physiotherapy service within your clinical area, managing staff and resources to deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care. You will also provide professional training, mentorship, and clinical guidance to therapy staff and multidisciplinary team (MDT) colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialised physiotherapy assessment, intervention, and management for patients with complex and multi-pathological conditions including respiratory, neurological, and cognitive impairments.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to physiotherapists, assistants, and students, ensuring high standards of professional practice.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the clinical delivery of care within your specialist area, managing staff and resources effectively to meet service demands.
  • Apply advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret and evaluate complex clinical information from multiple sources.
  • Promote and lead multidisciplinary working across teams, fostering effective communication and collaboration with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide specialist training and education to physiotherapy staff, students, and other members of the MDT.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, implementing best practice and clinical governance standards.
  • Provide cross-cover for other therapy teams within the Directorate based on your skills and service requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely patient records in accordance with NHS policies and HCPC standards.
  • Promote continuous professional development and evidence-based practice within the service.

About You

You are an experienced and autonomous Band 7 Physiotherapist with a proven track record of delivering advanced clinical care within an acute or complex rehabilitation setting. You combine strong clinical expertise with effective leadership and communication skills, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred physiotherapy services.

You are confident in managing complex caseloads and demonstrate a collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams. Your ability to train, supervise, and inspire others is matched by your commitment to continuous improvement and clinical excellence.

Requirements

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
  • HCPC Registration as a qualified Physiotherapist.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience at Band 6 or above within the NHS.
  • Proven experience in managing acute and chronic respiratory conditions, neurological impairments, and complex/multi-pathology cases.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and develop a clinical team.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective MDT collaboration.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical audit, and quality improvement.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage workload, and adapt to service demands.
  • Flexibility to provide cross-cover across therapy teams as required.

Contract & Working Pattern

  • Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week
  • Shift Pattern: 09:00 – 17:00
  • Days: Monday to Friday
  • Contract: Ongoing locum
  • Salary: £Negotiable (dependent on experience)
  • Location: University Hospitals North Midlands NHS Trust
