Tripod Partners are recruiting a Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist for a locum role within Buckinghamshire NHS. This position sits within a Wheelchair Service, providing specialist assessments and interventions for individuals requiring long-term wheelchair use.
The Occupational Therapist will deliver comprehensive, person-centred assessments for both manual and powered wheelchairs, including complex postural, seating, and pressure care needs. The role involves working across a variety of settings, ensuring individuals receive appropriate equipment and support to maximise independence, mobility, and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessments for individuals requiring long-term wheelchair provision.
- Assess needs for manual and powered wheelchairs across a range of clinical and community settings.
- Undertake complex postural, seating, and pressure care assessments.
- Recommend and support provision of bespoke and standard seating and postural equipment.
- Carry out environmental and functional assessments to inform care planning.
- Develop person-centred action plans to support mobility and independence.
- Provide manual handling advice related to equipment provision.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to service delivery.
- Support or supervise students where appropriate (desirable).
About You
You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist with experience working within a
wheelchair service. You will demonstrate strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability
to assess complex postural and seating needs, providing tailored solutions for individuals requiring
specialist mobility equipment.
You will be confident working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team, supporting
individuals with long-term mobility needs to achieve improved independence and quality of life.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience working within a wheelchair service (essential).
- Experience in complex seating, postural management, and pressure care.
- Ability to carry out environmental and functional assessments.
- Knowledge of manual handling in relation to equipment provision.
- Experience supervising students desirable.
