Role Overview:
We are actively recruiting for an experienced Surgical First Assistant to join a dynamic surgical team in Reading, Berkshire. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a cutting-edge facility, supporting surgeons across a variety of procedures and ensuring patients receive top-quality care throughout their surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directly assist surgeons during procedures, maintaining a high standard of patient care throughout.
- Manage surgical instruments, ensuring they are sterile and properly set up for operations.
- Monitor patient responses and vital signs during surgery and liaise with the anaesthetic team as needed.
- Assist with wound closure under supervision and handle dressings post-surgery.
- Adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols and theatre safety regulations.
- Support patient preparation pre-operatively and post-operative recovery.
Requirements:
- Valid NMC or HCPC registration.
- Prior experience working as a Surgical First Assistant across multiple surgical specialities.
- Excellent understanding of theatre protocols and best surgical practices.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Desirable Skills:
- Previous experience assisting in specialised surgeries such as orthopaedic or cardiovascular procedures.
- Knowledge of surgical robotics or minimally invasive surgical techniques.
- A commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
