Social Worker – Adult Services

Location: London Borough of Haringey

Contract Type: Locum / Temporary

Duration: 3 months

Salary: £negotiable

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

The London Borough of Haringey is seeking an experienced and dedicated Adult Social Worker to join our Adult Services team on a 3-month interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a diverse, dynamic borough that is committed to delivering person-centred, empowering, and outcome-focused adult social care.

As a Social Worker within Adult Services, you will play a key role in supporting adults with care and support needs to live independently and safely. You will undertake assessments, develop personalised care plans, and work closely with individuals, families, and multi-agency partners to promote wellbeing and independence.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments, support planning, and reviews in line with statutory requirements and local procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with adults, families, and carers to promote independence, choice, and control.

  • Manage a caseload of adults with complex needs, including physical disabilities, mental health conditions, learning disabilities, or older age-related issues.

  • Undertake safeguarding enquiries under Section 42 of the Care Act, ensuring timely and proportionate responses to risk.

  • Work in partnership with health professionals, housing providers, and voluntary sector organisations to deliver coordinated, holistic support.

  • Promote the principles of Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) and strength-based practice across all work.

  • Ensure all case recording and documentation is accurate, timely, and compliant with local authority standards.

  • Contribute to team meetings, reflective supervision, and service development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).

  • Registration: Registered with Social Work England.

  • Substantial post-qualifying experience within adult social care, ideally in community or safeguarding teams.

  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related legislation.

  • Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload and work effectively in a multi-agency environment.

  • Commitment to person-centred, strengths-based, and outcome-focused practice.

Why Join?

Haringey Council offers a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking working environment where your professional expertise will be valued. You’ll have the opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team focused on delivering high-quality services that make a real difference to the lives of adults in the community.

In this short-term role, you’ll be able to apply your professional knowledge and skills to support independence, wellbeing, and dignity across Haringey’s diverse population.
