View JobPsych RN – Bassett Medical Center Facility: Bassett Medical Center Unit: Adult Psychiatry (Locked Unit) Unit Overview ? Unit Type: Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit ? Patient Population: Adults 18+ presenting with a range of psychiatric and dualdiagnosis conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, psychosis, and substance/alcohol-related disorders. ? Unit Size: 14 beds, expanding to 20 beds within 3–6 months. ? Environment: Locked unit; secure behavioral health setting. ? Patient Mix: Variable day-to-day; typically a blend of diagnoses and acuity levels. Sta?ing Model ? Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:7 when at full census (2 nurses per shift). ? Tech/NA Support: Typically 2 techs per shift; may decrease to 1 if census is low, with float support as needed. ? Team Composition: 2 RNs and 1 to 2 NAs/Techs per shift. Clinical Expectations ? Primary RN Responsibilities: Medication administration, documentation, and clinical oversight/support for NAs. ? Direct Care: RNs may assist with patient care as needed, including 1:1 observation. ? Safety Measures: o Restraint/seclusion room on unit. o Security currently assists with restraints, but nurses will undergo deescalation training (TRUST training planned for spring). o Hourly rounding required—RNs rotate hourly patient checks. ? Certifications Required: None currently required; de-escalation certification (TRUST) will be implemented in the future. Scheduling Details ? Shift: 1900–0730 (Nights) ? Schedule Type: Variable nights depending on need. Recent sta?ing changes mean coverage may include weekdays and weekends. ? Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Required. ? On-Call: None. ? Floating: Rare; only one psych unit in the facility. Additional Notes ? Travelers must be comfortable in a fast-paced acute behavioral health setting. ? Flexibility is key—nurses may occasionally function as a nurse tech or sit 1:1 for safety monitoring. ? The unit is expanding, and leadership is supportive of traveler integration.
