Hand Therapist – Band 6 (Part Time)

Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Hand Therapist to join the MSK Hand Therapy service at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust – Epsom Hospital in Surrey.

This opportunity is open to experienced Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists with previous Hand Therapy experience. The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to patients with a broad range of hand and wrist-related conditions and pathologies.

The initial assignment is for 6 weeks, with potential to extend, offering an excellent opportunity for a specialist Hand Therapist seeking a part-time locum position within an NHS setting.

Key Responsibilities

 
• Provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients presenting with a broad range of hand and wrist pathologies.
   

• Develop and deliver personalised recovery and rehabilitation programmes based on individual patient needs.
   

• Work with patients across acute elective, acute trauma, plastics and rheumatology pathways.
   

• Design and provide bespoke splints where clinically appropriate.
   

• Manage wounds and remove stitches where required and within appropriate clinical competencies.
   

• Use clinical reasoning to determine appropriate treatment and rehabilitation interventions.
   

• Manage an individual patient caseload effectively, prioritising according to clinical need.
   

• Monitor patient progress and adapt treatment plans to support functional recovery.
   

• Work closely with the Hand Therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated patient care.
   

• Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with professional and NHS standards.

About You

We are looking for a confident and experienced Hand Therapist with a strong understanding of hand and wrist pathologies and their management. You will have previous experience within a specialist Hand Therapy setting and be comfortable working with a varied patient caseload.

You will have practical experience in bespoke splinting, wound management and stitch removal, together with the ability to develop personalised rehabilitation plans. You should be able to work independently while also contributing effectively to the wider Hand Therapy team.

Requirements

 
• HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist.
   

• Previous experience working in a Hand Therapy setting.
   

• Good understanding of hand pathologies and their management.
   

• Experience working with acute elective and acute trauma patients.
   

• Experience working with plastics and rheumatology patients.
   

• Ability to provide bespoke splints for patients.
   

• Experience managing wounds and removing stitches where necessary.
   

• Ability to provide personalised recovery and rehabilitation plans for a broad range of hand and wrist-related pathologies.
   

• Ability to independently manage a patient caseload.
   

• Strong clinical reasoning, communication and multidisciplinary working skills.
