Community Occupational Therapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Community Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with East London NHS Foundation Trust, based at Shefford Health Centre, Bedford. Working within the Bedfordshire NHS, you will join the Rehabilitation and Enablement Team, providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to clients within the community.

This role is suited to an experienced Occupational Therapist who is confident managing clients with complex and multiple pathologies. You will use advanced clinical reasoning to complete comprehensive assessments, develop individualised treatment plans, agree meaningful goals, and deliver specialist interventions that promote independence and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments for clients who may present with complex conditions and multiple pathologies.
  • Use well-developed clinical reasoning to select and apply appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Analyse assessment findings to formulate accurate and appropriate Occupational Therapy treatment plans.
  • Discuss and agree treatment goals and outcomes with clients and establish realistic timescales for achievement.
  • Select and deliver appropriate treatment techniques from a broad range of specialist Occupational Therapy skills.
  • Use theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and previous clinical outcomes to inform treatment selection.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability required to undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions safely and effectively.
  • Take responsibility for the safe use of equipment during assessment and intervention.
  • Check and/or teach the competency of junior therapists and non-qualified staff in the safe use of equipment.
  • Provide guidance on manual handling equipment, techniques, and alternative equipment where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, carers, colleagues, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical practice, safety, and professional accountability.

About You

You will be an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist with strong community rehabilitation and enablement experience. You will be confident managing complex cases, using specialist clinical reasoning, and developing personalised treatment plans.

You will have strong practical skills and be physically able to undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions. Experience supporting junior therapists and non-qualified staff with equipment competency, manual handling techniques, and safe practice will be highly relevant to this role.

Requirements

  • Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within a community, rehabilitation, or enablement setting.
  • Experience assessing clients with complex and multiple pathologies.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and treatment planning skills.
  • Ability to select and deliver a range of specialist Occupational Therapy interventions.
  • Strong practical and physical ability to undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions.
  • Knowledge and experience of safe equipment use and manual handling techniques.
  • Ability to support or assess the competency of junior therapists and non-qualified staff.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary working skills.
