Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker)** to join **Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Children’s Services team**. This senior role involves managing complex safeguarding cases, supervising colleagues, and ensuring children and families receive effective and timely support.
Alongside casework, you will provide leadership within the team, supporting professional development, service improvement, and high-quality child-centred practice.
Key Responsibilities
Manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases in line with statutory frameworks.
Provide supervision, mentoring, and reflective practice support to social workers and support staff.
Undertake detailed assessments of children and families to inform planning and interventions.
Develop, implement, and review personalised care and protection plans.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for court proceedings, child protection conferences, and statutory panels.
Chair and contribute to multi-agency meetings, ensuring effective and coordinated interventions.
Build strong, positive relationships with children, families, and carers to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records in line with council policy and legal requirements.
Contribute to audits, service development, and continuous improvement within Children’s Services.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with substantial post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled in managing complex safeguarding work and supporting colleagues through professional leadership. Your focus is always on improving outcomes for children and families.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within statutory Children’s Services, including safeguarding and court proceedings.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.
Experience of supervising, mentoring, or supporting colleagues.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
Ability to manage challenging caseloads while maintaining a child-focused approach.
