Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview / Introduction to Role

We are recruiting an Occupational Therapist to join Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council in Merseyside. This locum position involves providing person-centred assessments and interventions for clients with disabilities and their carers. The role focuses on maximising independence, restoring daily living skills, and recommending appropriate equipment and adaptations to meet clients’ needs.

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct comprehensive functional assessments of clients’ physical and psychological disabilities within their home environment, considering limitations on self-care, work, home, and social life. – Provide advice and recommendations to clients and families on managing disabilities, mobility, and daily living activities, including restorative strategies where appropriate. – Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, managing cases referred from multiple sources, and liaising with internal and external colleagues across agencies. – Assess and order suitable equipment via the Community Equipment Service, reviewing its effectiveness after delivery. – Carry out initial assessments for home adaptations in line with relevant legislation and guidelines. – Liaise with the Home Improvements Service, landlords, architects, and contractors to ensure adaptations meet clients’ practical and medical needs while considering financial implications. – Work independently while remaining accountable to the Occupational Therapy and Sensory Lead Practitioners and Principal OT for day-to-day service management. – Adhere to professional Codes of Conduct, Standards, Policies, and Procedures from the Health and Care Professions Council, Sefton Council, and the Occupational Therapy and Sensory Team Manager. – Monitor and meet performance-related deadlines and targets in line with the Council’s performance management framework.

About You

You are a qualified Occupational Therapist with experience providing holistic, client-centred care. You are confident assessing and managing a diverse caseload of clients with physical and psychological disabilities. You work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating strong communication skills and professional accountability.

Requirements

– Recognised Occupational Therapy qualification. – Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). – Experience in home-based assessments and providing advice on equipment and adaptations. – Strong knowledge of legislation relevant to social care and occupational therapy practice. – Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload. – Excellent interpersonal, communication, and multi-agency liaison skills.
