Occupational Therapist (Locum)

Location: Suffolk County Council – Beacon House, White House Road, Ipswich

Area: Suffolk Social Services

Rate: £41 per hour (umbrella)

Contract: Locum, Ongoing

About the Role

Suffolk County Council is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to support children and young people with complex disabilities across the county. This flexible, county-wide role focuses on maximising independence, improving quality of life and promoting safety through specialist assessments, equipment and adaptations. Although office attendance is required for team meetings, there is no expectation to be office-based regularly.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality occupational therapy assessments in the home environment for children and young people with complex disabilities.
  • Identify functional difficulties and explore solutions through advice, equipment provision and minor/major adaptations.
  • Support parents and carers in their caring roles by offering practical guidance and tailored interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals in health, education, Community Equipment Services and Housing organisations.
  • Ensure all assessments align with the local authority’s statutory responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and professional documentation in line with service standards.
  • Manage your own caseload independently, prioritising effectively while contributing positively to the wider team.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the HCPC.
  • Experience working with disabled children, ideally within a social care setting (desirable).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage a varied caseload autonomously.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaison with children, young people, families and other professionals.

Working Arrangements

  • County-wide community role.
  • Flexible working with occasional office attendance for team meetings.

Why Join?

  • Competitive umbrella rate of £41 per hour.
  • Meaningful work supporting children and young people with complex needs.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work–life balance.
  • Collaborative multi-agency working within a supportive local authority team.
