Lead Occupational Therapist – Band 7 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Lead Occupational Therapist to join the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, supporting the development and delivery of Occupational Therapy provision within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU). This locum role offers the opportunity to lead a new AMU OT service, providing both clinical and non-clinical supervision while delivering highly specialist occupational therapy interventions. UK experience is essential, along with a minimum of three years post-qualification practice.

Key Responsibilities

  •
  • Lead the Occupational Therapy service within the Acute Medical Unit, establishing high clinical standards and effective service delivery.

  • Provide highly specialist occupational therapy assessments and interventions for patients with a wide range of acute medical needs.

  • Deliver both clinical and non-clinical supervision to Occupational Therapists and support staff, ensuring consistent professional development.

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to shape care pathways and promote high-quality, patient-centred care.

  • Contribute to service development initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting implementation.

  • Ensure robust documentation, clinical governance, and compliance with trust policies and HCPC standards.

  • Act as a senior clinical resource, offering expert guidance and leadership within the AMU environment.

About You

You are a highly skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist with substantial experience in acute settings and the confidence to lead a specialist team. You have strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support and mentor colleagues. Your experience within the NHS and your commitment to delivering high-quality care will enable you to establish and drive best practice within the AMU OT service.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience.

  • Significant UK experience within acute or relevant clinical settings.

  • Experience in clinical supervision and team leadership.

  • Strong assessment, planning, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to lead service development and support multidisciplinary teamwork.

Contract & Salary

  • Job Type: Locum

  • Band: 7

  • Contract Length: Ongoing

  • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00)

  • Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital – Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

  • Area: South East London NHS

  • Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
