Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Respiratory Physiotherapy Team at Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – East Surrey Hospital, within the Surrey NHS area. This locum position involves providing specialist physiotherapy to patients in acute medical wards, focusing on the assessment and management of acutely unwell respiratory patients. The ideal candidate will be confident working independently in an acute setting and have experience supporting patients with both respiratory and neurological conditions.
Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality physiotherapy assessment and treatment for acutely unwell respiratory patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
- Implement evidence-based interventions to support respiratory function, airway clearance, and overall recovery.
- Work independently to manage a varied caseload across acute medical wards, ensuring timely and effective clinical decision-making.
- Contribute to the rehabilitation of patients with neurological conditions as part of an integrated multidisciplinary approach.
- Collaborate closely with consultants, nurses, and other allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient progress, document treatment outcomes, and adjust plans based on clinical presentation and response.
- Participate in team meetings, handovers, and service improvement initiatives within the physiotherapy department.
About You
You are a confident and experienced Physiotherapist with a background in acute medical and respiratory care. You have strong clinical reasoning skills, excellent communication abilities, and the confidence to manage acutely unwell patients independently. A flexible and proactive approach, along with a commitment to patient-centred care, will make you a valuable addition to the hospital’s respiratory physiotherapy team.
Requirements

- Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Significant experience working in acute medical or respiratory physiotherapy settings.
- Ability to assess, treat, and manage acutely unwell respiratory patients independently.
- Experience working with neurological patients is desirable.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and professional development.
