Team Manager – Fostering (Children’s Social Work) (London Borough of Havering)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Team Manager (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to lead the **London Borough of Havering Fostering Service**. This role is focused on managing a team of social workers, overseeing fostering assessments, supervision, and support, and ensuring foster carers and children receive high-quality, safe, and effective services.
As a Team Manager, you will provide strong leadership, professional oversight, and ensure the fostering service complies with all statutory regulations, policies, and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to social workers within the fostering service.
Oversee fostering assessments, approvals, and reviews to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Ensure foster carers receive appropriate supervision, training, and support.
Manage complex fostering and safeguarding cases, ensuring children’s needs remain central.
Contribute to the recruitment, retention, and development of foster carers.
Monitor performance, undertake audits, and ensure quality assurance across the fostering service.
Work closely with children’s social care teams, health, education, and partner agencies to deliver joined-up support for children in foster care.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with fostering legislation and Havering Council policies.
Support service development, contribute to strategic planning, and promote continuous improvement.
About You
You are a confident and experienced leader with extensive post-qualification experience in children’s social work and fostering services. You are able to inspire a team, drive service improvements, and ensure children and carers receive the highest standard of care and support.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services, including fostering or looked after children.
Proven experience in a supervisory or management role.
Strong knowledge of fostering legislation, regulations, and best practice.
Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff and foster carers.
