Job Overview

An experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist is required to join a well-established service operating across the acute stroke unit, Early Supported Discharge (ESD) pathway, community provision, and head and neck cancer services.  

This post is based on the acute side and requires a confident clinician who can work flexibly across both inpatient and community settings, delivering high-quality, specialist care to patients with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities

•  
• Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input within the acute stroke unit.
   

• Support proactive in-reach and discharge planning as part of the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) pathway.
   

• Manage complex communication and dysphagia caseloads.
   

• Work across hospital and community interfaces to ensure seamless patient care.
   

• Contribute effectively to multidisciplinary team (MDT) working while maintaining autonomous clinical practice.

Skills & Experience Required

•  
• Strong Band 7 level experience within acute stroke services.
   

• Proven experience working within an ESD pathway, including discharge planning and in-reach.
   

• Confidence managing complex communication and dysphagia caseloads.
   

• Experience working across both inpatient and community settings.
   

• Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning.

Desirable Experience

•  
• FEES (Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing).
   

• Tracheostomy management.
   

• Experience within head and neck cancer pathways.
