Location: London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust – Ealing Hospital

Area: West London NHS

Rate: £Negotiable

Contract: Locum, Ongoing (initial 10 weeks)

 

About the Role

 

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult SLT Service at Ealing Hospital. This inpatient role focuses on supporting adults with complex communication and swallowing needs on acute medical wards. The post requires an autonomous practitioner confident in managing a varied and challenging caseload.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

  • Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention to adults on acute medical wards.
  • Manage a complex inpatient caseload independently, offering second opinions and specialist clinical advice as required.
  • Work with adults who often present with English as an additional language (EAL), adapting communication approaches as needed.
  • Develop and implement care plans and specialist therapy programmes in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to joint working with patients, carers, health colleagues, the voluntary sector and Social Services.
  • Participate in MDT meetings and support coordinated discharge planning.
  • Provide specialist training to other professionals, patients and carers on speech, language, communication and swallowing needs.
  • Support the clinical training of newly qualified SLTs, students and clinical support workers when required.

 

Requirements

 

  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Experience in adult acute inpatient settings.
  • Strong dysphagia and communication disorder experience.
  • Confidence working with patients who have English as an additional language.
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver specialist clinical decision-making.
  • Excellent MDT collaboration and communication skills.

 

Working Hours

 

  • 37.5 hours per week.
