Job Title: Acute Paediatric and Neonatal Speech and Language Therapist – Band 7

Location: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust – Queen Mary’s, St Helier (with occasional home visits to Epsom)

Area: Surrey NHS

Salary: £negotiable

Contract length: Ongoing (3–4 months or until permanent vacancy is filled)

Job details: An experienced Acute Paediatric and Neonatal Speech and Language Therapist is required to join the service. The post holder must be able to carry out videofluoroscopy independently, have neonatal experience, and be confident working autonomously. JD available on request.

     

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering a specialist neonatal SLT service to a Level 2 neonatal unit, with ad-hoc provision to a Level 1 special care baby unit
     

  • Independently manage an acute inpatient neonatal and paediatric dysphagia caseload across paediatric wards and outpatient clinic settings
     

  • Provide holistic, developmentally supportive care to babies, children, and their families
     

  • Undertake comprehensive assessment and management of specialist neonatal and paediatric dysphagia caseloads, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning
     

  • Provide expert speech and language therapy advice and consultation to MDT colleagues, including participation in a monthly MDT feeding clinic
     

  • Lead the Videofluoroscopy (VFSS) clinic, identifying appropriate patients and coordinating the VFSS process for inpatient and community referrals
     

  • Actively contribute to discharge planning, completing onward referrals and providing effective handover to community services
     

  • Work independently and autonomously within defined professional and clinical guidelines, taking full accountability for own practice
     

  • Opportunities to lead or contribute to Quality Improvement projects within neonatal services

Support: Informal clinical support available via a local Clinical Lead Neonatal SLT, with access to external clinical supervision if required.

Working hours: Potentially 3 days per week. Mondays at Epsom or Wednesdays at St Helier (please specify preference).
