Senior Social Worker – Adults Services

Location: Telford and Wrekin Council

Contract Type: Locum / Temporary

Duration: 3 months

Salary: £negotiable

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

Telford and Wrekin Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Social Worker to join our Adults Services team on a 3-month interim contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking local authority that is committed to promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing for adults across the community.

As a Senior Social Worker, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred practice—assessing needs, managing risk, and developing care plans that enable adults to live fulfilling lives. You will also provide professional guidance and support to colleagues, ensuring the highest standards of social work are consistently maintained across the team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake Care Act-compliant assessments and reviews of adults with a wide range of needs, including physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and age-related issues.

  • Develop, implement, and review support plans that promote independence, wellbeing, and choice.

  • Work collaboratively with individuals, carers, families, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Provide professional oversight and support to junior colleagues, promoting reflective practice and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure all safeguarding concerns are identified, reported, and managed appropriately in line with statutory requirements.

  • Manage a caseload of complex cases requiring advanced skills in risk management, capacity assessment, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records and ensure compliance with legislation, local policies, and best practice guidance.

  • Contribute to service development initiatives and support quality assurance processes within the team.

Requirements

  • Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).

  • Registration: Registered with Social Work England.

  • Substantial post-qualifying experience within adult social care, including assessment, safeguarding, and case management.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and relevant statutory frameworks.

  • Experience managing complex cases and supporting vulnerable adults with diverse needs.

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.

  • Commitment to person-centred, strengths-based, and outcomes-focused practice.
