Brief Job Overview

 
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Social Worker to join the City of London Corporation on a 3-month locum contract. This is a vital role within a busy and dynamic team, supporting adults and families across the City through high-quality social work practice that promotes independence, wellbeing, and safeguarding.  

You will bring strong professional expertise, leadership, and a commitment to delivering effective outcomes through person-centred, strengths-based approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality Care Act 2014 assessments and reviews, ensuring that care and support plans are person-centred and outcome-focused.
• Provide professional supervision, mentoring, and guidance to less experienced social workers or team members where required.
• Undertake complex casework involving adults, families, and carers, ensuring all interventions comply with statutory duties and best practice.
• Lead on safeguarding adults enquiries in line with Section 42 of the Care Act, ensuring risk is identified and managed effectively.
• Apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and undertake Best Interest decisions when appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners including health, housing, and voluntary organisations to coordinate holistic support.
• Contribute to the effective management of workload within the team, prioritising urgent and high-risk cases as necessary.
• Support service development through sharing expertise, reflective practice, and participation in professional learning initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with statutory and local authority requirements.
• Represent the service in multi-agency meetings and, where necessary, in court proceedings.

You are an experienced and confident social worker who demonstrates strong professional judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for adults and their families. You are confident managing complex cases, leading on safeguarding, and mentoring colleagues, while maintaining a person-centred approach in all your work.

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
• Extensive post-qualified experience within Adult Social Care or Children’s Services.
• Proven ability to manage complex cases and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
• Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Safeguarding Adults frameworks.
• Experience of working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams and statutory partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation.
• Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective supervision.
