Senior Social Worker – Family Support & Protection
Brief Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Social Worker to join the Family Support & Protection Team at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. This is a short-term locum position providing essential support to an existing caseload following the departure of a permanent team member. The successful candidate will manage a diverse and complex caseload, including Child Protection (CP), Child in Need (CIN), Court, and Looked After Children (CLA) work.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of children and families across Child Protection, Child in Need, Court, and Looked After Children cases.
- Undertake assessments, care planning, and interventions in line with statutory requirements and local authority policies.
- Prepare high-quality reports and present evidence in court as required.
- Work directly with children and families to promote safety, stability, and positive outcomes.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-agency professionals, including education, health, and legal partners.
- Monitor progress and outcomes, ensuring that all casework is recorded accurately and promptly.
- Contribute to team discussions, reflective supervision, and ongoing service improvement within the Family Support & Protection Service.
- Provide professional expertise and support to colleagues, ensuring practice is informed by evidence and best practice standards.

You are a confident and compassionate social worker with substantial experience in child protection and family support work. You bring resilience, professional curiosity, and a strong commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and families. You’re organised, adaptable, and able to manage complex casework within a busy frontline service.
Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Minimum of three years’ post-qualified experience within children’s services, ideally in Family Support, Child Protection, or Court work.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory frameworks, and care proceedings.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with professionals, families, and young people.
- Commitment to reflective practice, supervision, and continuous professional development.
