Senior Social Worker – Children’s Services (London Borough of Tower Hamlets)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **London Borough of Tower Hamlets Children’s Services**. This role focuses on leading complex safeguarding work, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring high-quality, child-centred interventions for children, young people, and families.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will manage challenging casework, provide guidance to less experienced staff, and work closely with families and partner agencies to achieve safe and positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, strengths, and needs.
Develop, implement, and review robust child-focused care and protection plans.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional guidance to junior and newly qualified social workers.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and their families to build positive, trusting relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health services, police, and voluntary organisations to ensure effective multi-agency working.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Tower Hamlets Council policies.
Contribute to reflective supervision, peer learning, and continuous service improvement.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with significant post-qualification experience in children’s services. You can manage complex cases, support colleagues, and ensure children’s voices are central to all decision-making.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Proven track record of handling complex safeguarding and child protection work.
Experience of mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
