Senior Practitioner – Children’s Services (Royal Borough of Greenwich)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Practitioner (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **Royal Borough of Greenwich Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on managing complex safeguarding cases, supporting vulnerable children and families, and providing professional guidance to colleagues to ensure excellent social work practice across the service.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will lead on challenging casework, mentor junior staff, and contribute to service development while ensuring that children’s voices and best interests are at the heart of decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex child protection and safeguarding cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, needs, and strengths.
Develop, implement, and review care and protection plans that promote positive outcomes for children.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional guidance to less experienced social workers.
Prepare and present evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children, young people, and families.
Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary organisations to deliver joined-up support.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Royal Borough of Greenwich policies.
Contribute to reflective supervision, service audits, and continuous professional development within the team.
About You
You are a resilient and confident social worker with strong post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled at handling complex safeguarding cases, supporting colleagues, and ensuring children remain at the centre of all practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience in Children’s Services.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supporting less experienced colleagues.
Excellent knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Strong assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
