Senior Practitioner – Children’s Services (Birmingham Children’s Trust)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Practitioner (Qualified Social Worker)** to join the **Birmingham Children’s Trust Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on supporting vulnerable children and families, while providing guidance and supervision to less experienced colleagues.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will manage complex cases, contribute to safeguarding practice, and support the development of your team, ensuring high standards of social work delivery across the service.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex child protection and safeguarding cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify needs, risks, and strengths.
Develop, implement, and review child-focused care and protection plans.
Provide professional supervision, mentoring, and support to junior social workers and newly qualified staff.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, families, and carers to build positive, trusting relationships.
Collaborate with partner agencies including health services, schools, police, and voluntary organisations.
Ensure all case records are accurate, timely, and compliant with legislation and Birmingham Children’s Trust policies.
Contribute to service development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with significant experience in children’s services. You are skilled at managing complex safeguarding cases and providing professional guidance, while keeping children at the centre of your practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Substantial post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience of mentoring, supervising, or supporting less experienced colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
