Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Advanced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with South Gloucestershire Council. Working within Gloucestershire Social Services, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention across community and reablement services, supporting people to achieve their goals and maximise independence.
The role includes a strong focus on manual handling, including the completion of manual handling plans and risk assessments, housing applications, and joint working with Social Workers. You will also support the Reablement provider and contribute to hospital discharge pathways through the duty service.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments to identify individuals’ functional needs and appropriate interventions.
- Complete detailed manual handling plans and risk assessments to support safe care and promote independence.
- Provide specialist advice and intervention relating to manual handling requirements.
- Complete housing applications and provide Occupational Therapy recommendations where required.
- Work jointly with Social Workers to develop coordinated, person-centred solutions.
- Support the Reablement provider through Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention.
- Work directly with individuals to identify and achieve meaningful goals and outcomes.
- Provide Occupational Therapy input to support independence and effective reablement.
- Participate in the duty rota, supporting the triage of referrals received from health partners.
- Support Pathway 1 hospital discharge plans through timely Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention.
- Manage referrals effectively and prioritise work according to service requirements.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, assessments, risk documentation, and professional recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with health, social care, reablement, and other partner services.
About You
You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with strong community and Adult Social Care experience, particularly in manual handling, risk assessment, reablement, and hospital discharge pathways.
You will be confident working autonomously in the community while also contributing effectively to joint working with Social Workers, health partners, and Reablement providers. You will be comfortable participating in a duty rota and responding to referrals requiring timely assessment and intervention.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Strong experience undertaking Occupational Therapy assessments.
- Excellent manual handling assessment and risk management skills.
- Experience writing manual handling plans and risk assessments.
- Experience working within Adult Social Care and/or community Occupational Therapy.
- Experience working alongside Social Workers and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of reablement and supporting individuals to achieve their goals.
- Experience supporting hospital discharge pathways is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively within a referral and duty triage system.
- Strong communication, organisation, and case management skills.
- Ability to work across office, community, and home-based environments.

- Office Requirement: Minimum 2 days per week
- Community/Home Working: Visits and/or home working on other days
- Duty Rota: Approximately 2–3 days per month, forming part of the practitioner’s office day that week.
