Senior Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist for an exciting locum opportunity within West Wales Social Services. Based with Ceredigion County Council, this newly created senior role has been established to support ongoing service improvement and strengthen clinical leadership within the Occupational Therapy Service.

Working closely with the Team Manager, you will take clinical responsibility for the team’s triage function, providing expert guidance to qualified Occupational Therapists in prioritising new referrals, applying strengths-based practice, and ensuring timely, person-centred interventions. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior clinician who is passionate about service development, leadership, and improving outcomes for adults within Social Care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership for the Occupational Therapy triage function.
  • Support qualified staff in prioritising new referrals using advanced clinical reasoning and professional judgement.
  • Apply strengths-based, proportionate, and person-centred approaches to assessment and intervention.
  • Undertake risk assessments to establish appropriate priorities and safe decision-making.
  • Provide early advice, information, and signposting to reduce unnecessary formal assessments where appropriate.
  • Promote access to preventative services, including the Centre for Independent Living.
  • Work in accordance with the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act, HCPC standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Support individuals to be fully involved in decisions regarding their care, support, and next steps.
  • Work collaboratively with the Team Manager and senior colleagues to support continuous service improvement.
  • Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and clinical support to Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and contribute to high standards of professional practice.

About You

You will be an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist with strong clinical leadership skills and a passion for improving Adult Social Care services. You will have extensive experience in community Occupational Therapy, triage, and complex clinical decision-making, together with the ability to support and develop colleagues through mentoring and professional leadership.

You will be confident applying advanced clinical reasoning, managing competing priorities, and delivering strengths-based, person-centred services that place individuals at the centre of decision-making.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Adult Social Care or Community Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience providing clinical leadership or senior-level support within an Occupational Therapy service.
  • Excellent triage, prioritisation, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act and relevant professional legislation.
  • Experience undertaking strengths-based assessments and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to continuous service improvement and high-quality, person-centred practice.
