Job Title: Surgical First Assistant – Northampton, Northamptonshire

Location: Northampton, Northamptonshire
Pay Rates:

  • Standard: £55.24 per hour
  • Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
  • Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, Flexible Shifts


Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Surgical First Assistant to join a reputable surgical team in Northampton, Northamptonshire. This role involves delivering high-quality assistance during surgical procedures while ensuring the smooth operation of theatre activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead surgeon during operative procedures, providing essential technical support.
  • Prepare surgical instruments and ensure proper sterility of all equipment.
  • Monitor and assist with wound care, haemostasis, and tissue handling under direct supervision.
  • Coordinate with the anaesthetic and recovery teams to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all procedures and patient interactions.
  • Adhere to hospital infection control protocols and maintain a clean working environment.

Requirements:

  • Valid NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience working as a Surgical First Assistant within a clinical theatre setting.
  • Proficient understanding of surgical protocols, aseptic techniques, and safety measures.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a focus on patient care.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Desirable Skills:

  • Specialised surgical experience in areas such as general surgery, orthopaedics, or cardiovascular procedures.
  • Certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Mentorship or leadership experience within a surgical team environment.
